Honestly I’d read historical fiction about the Tudors if Donald Trump wrote it. Can you imagine.

I love Philipa Gregory & I’ve wanted to get round to Wolf Hall for a while.

There’s a lot of dialogue. A lot. You have to pay close attention to pages and pages of euphemisms to catch the history, as there’s no commentary. If you don’t pay attention you will miss the parting with Rome, for instance.

Nevertheless, Thomas Cromwell is a fantastic character, well developed and sheepishly likeable.
